In September last year, 41 promising companies for the Green New Deal were selected for the first time (20 by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, 21 by the Ministry of Environment), and an additional 31 companies (15 by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, 16 by the Ministry of Environment) were selected in June this year.
In the lead-up to the selection ceremony, ministers from two key ministries graced the opening of the ‘International Environmental Industry Technology and Green Energy Exhibition.’ Held from July 8 to July 10, 2021, at the same venue, this exhibition showcased presentations from major corporations, highlighting stellar green technologies and products. The ministers took the opportunity to encourage burgeoning small and medium-sized environmental enterprises.
The opening ceremony saw an esteemed gathering that included ministers from two ministries, National Assembly members Noh Woong-rae and Lim Jong-seong, ambassadors from Canada and Nicaragua to Korea, and leaders of related and affiliate organizations.
A highlight of the ‘International Environmental Industry Technology and Green Energy Exhibition’ was the special pavilion dedicated to promising Green New Deal companies. This pavilion featured numerous companies heralded for their innovations in the Green New Deal and carbon neutrality sectors. Their participation underscores Korea’s commitment to showcasing its green industry’s caliber on the global stage and broadening its international market reach.
Minister of Environment, Han Jeong-ae, remarked, “With the 2050 carbon neutrality declaration, the global community is fervently pursuing a transition to a green economy and society. This move aims to counteract the challenges posed by climate change and waning industrial competitiveness. To stay ahead of these global shifts, we’re channeling our resources into the Green New Deal and carbon neutrality initiatives. Our unwavering support is geared towards equipping small and medium-sized environmental firms to make their mark in the global green marketplace.”
Echoing these sentiments, Minister of SMEs and Startups, Kwon Chil-seung, stated, “Korea’s Green New Deal policy is pivotal in the global response to climate change. Our aim is to bolster Green New Deal investments, aiding small and medium-sized businesses in their transition to eco-friendly and low-carbon operations. We’re committed to championing promising Green New Deal enterprises, positioning them at the forefront of the global green industry.
